With growing concern from consumers about what happens to their end-of-life mattresses once they reach a household waste recycling centre, the National Bed Federation (NBF), which represents UK manufacturers of beds and their suppliers, recognised that there was no single UK-wide resource giving information about how each local authority deals with the problem of bulky waste such as mattresses.
We have, therefore, undertaken our own comprehensive research obtaining figures from 385 waste authorities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland under Freedom of Information to gain insight into how different parts of the UK are coping with the problem of disposing of bulky mattress waste and the recycling of their various components.
By providing a single portal for consumers, wherever they live, we hope that our free, dedicated website will make it easier for people to dispose of their mattresses responsibly.
